- Historical Significance: The island was the British administrative headquarters in the Andamans until an earthquake in 1941 forced them to move to Port Blair. During World War II, the Japanese occupied the island.
- Renaming: In December 2018, the island was renamed in honor of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a prominent Indian freedom fighter.
- Ruins: The island is known for its well-preserved colonial-era ruins, including a church, printing press, secretariat office, and more. Nature has taken over many of these structures, creating a unique blend of history and natural beauty.
- Tourist Attractions: Visitors can explore the ruins, enjoy a sound-and-light show, and take a boat ride from Port Blair's Aberdeen Jetty. The island also features a small museum with historical displays.
- Wildlife: The island is home to a herd of spotted deer and offers scenic views of the surrounding ocean.
What are the things to see in Ross Island?
Upon entering the island, you can find ruins of a giant water distillation plant, a swimming pool, and a tennis court.
The Island still has the remains of the famous printing press and secretariat office.
Tourists can go about exploring the islands and spot ruins of a church, furthermore down and you can see a graveyard.
The Farzand Ali Store was a famous store on the island, and it is now maintained as a museum. This store has numerous pictures of the British period and their past activities.
The island had community buildings like a church, tennis court, printing press, hospital, cemetery, secretariat, open-air theatre and much more to add.
The Japanese bunkers and cannons brought in by the Japanese during World War II can also be seen along with the other historical remains.
The Island is just a few miles away from Port Blair and can be accessed by boats from Port Blair. Ross Island can be reached via ferry from Water sports complex. These ferries sail daily to Ross Island. Usually, the ferry ride covers both Ross Island and North Bay Island in a single-day tour
